Microsoft Rewards

Microsoft Rewards is a place where you can earn points by playing games, doing Bing searches, using Edge on your phone and more. Points earned can be redeemed for gift cards, first party product discounts or donation to charities.

Rewards’ main problem was lack of engagement. The redesign was an effort to increase engagement and bring awareness to the product by delivering a high polished, gamified experience that users would want to keep coming back to.

I was the lead designer, overseeing the UX wireframing, the revised Information Architecture of the site and the visual refresh, working with fellow designers to create new illustrations and introduce motion to bring delight and personality.

Steak element explorations

The daily streak concept brought that much needed gamification to the experience. It was also an incentive to get users to return to the site on a daily basis to complete quizzes, do searches, watch videos to earn points and get that perfect streak.

There were many iterations to find the right visuals for the streaks. I wanted something that was easily recognizable and playful.

Microsoft Rewards on Xbox

To reach more users and continue to increase engagement, Rewards was introduced to Xbox. My main task was to bring cohesion across both surfaces, this allowed to create a familiar experience but also allowed playful, individual moments that were true to that end product. I was able to leverage the Xbox visual language and apply the same elements we had on the web: such as colours, gamification, profile data and page hierarchy.
